Harry at Home
Do we need to start at the beginning? Maybe not. But shall we?
The birth of Harry Homeowner, now Harry Home, feels like an all-too-common tale of a mom who had a bunch of kids in a short amount of time, left her career, got hit with a pandemic, and needed a creative outlet to stay sane. I am not quite sure that I stayed sane during those early years of having 3 kids under 3, but having the ability to focus on something aside from nap schedules, diaper changing, and consistent crying sure did help. At this point, I’ve made it through the trenches of the toddler years, and will be sending all kids off to school full-time in the fall. Daytime tennis anyone?
I digress…
After leaving my 12 year career as a teacher when my oldest was born, I immediately knew that I needed something for myself outside of being a mom. I dabbled in real estate for a short period of time, working alongside my mother. I loved the flexibility that came with the real estate profession and juggling home life with a new baby. During the early days of my real estate career (career could be a strong word here. Maybe “trial run” is more appropriate?), my mother and I noticed a lack of knowledge in new homeowners with how to maintain a home. It was the simple things like gutter cleaning, air filter changing, and systems maintenance that seemed to go over many new home owner heads. We started an Instagram page, affectionately called HarryHomeowner, as a way to market ourselves as realtors while also helping people to understand the ins and out of homeownership. It was a fun way to interact with others, imparting the knowledge that we had with even the most mundane tasks of owning a home. Harry Homeowner began to develop a following and I loved evolving our content as we grew.
As baby #2 and then baby #3 arrived, the real estate profession became almost impossible to maintain. I was still the primary caregiver for all 3 of my kiddos (all under the age of 3) and last-minute showings, listing appointments and everything in between were not conducive to having babies at home. With a growing following on Harry Homeowner, I knew that I wanted that platform to evolve and become a creative outlet for me to be home with my kids while still having purpose of my own.
3 years later, Harry Home has evolved into a lifestyle and design social media outlet that provides everyday styling and organizational ideas for the everyday home. I truly do not have the word count here to walk you through how we got from A to B in those 3 years, but Instagram is the wild, wild west and if we don’t evolve on that platform, we become obsolete. Whether I’m sharing design tips on my page, offering virtual design consults, or in person design services- my goal is to bring function and beauty to any home with any budget. I truly love bringing my knowledge of DIY home projects, designer looks for less, and budget styling to all projects that I work on.
I’m excited for the future of Harry Home and I am so happy that you are here. It is my hope that you always leave my page feeling inspired and empowered to make your house a home. Where will we be in the next 3 years? Lord only knows!
